Fed: Telstra allows free calls to Italian earthquake zone

Australians wishing to check on their loved ones in the Italian earthquake zone will
be able to make free calls from today.

Telstra has announced free calls from fixed-line residential phones to the disaster-ravaged
Abruzzo region of central Italy .. including the capital L'Aquila .. from midnight on
Friday until midnight .. Thursday April 16.

Customers can also call make toll-free calls to the central Italian towns of Avezzano
.. Pratola Peligna .. Rieti and Teramo.

Monday's 6.2-magnitude quake claimed at least 272 lives.
