NSW: Man ploughed down by train sues SRA
A man who suffered horrific injuries after a Sydney train ploughed into him is suingthe New South Wales State Rail Authority for more than $750,000 -- claiming a faulty doorallowed him to disembark early.
34-year-old JASON SCOTT PROUSE of Tuggerah has no memory of the accident in November1991 which led to his left arm and leg being amputated.
The New South Wales Supreme Court has been told PROUSE was with a group of young menwho got off the train just short of the station when it stopped at a signal -- and werecrossing the tracks to the platform.
It's alleged that when the guard saw them he blew his whistle but didn't stop the trainuntil after it had run over Mr PROUSE.
His lawyer has told the New South Wales Supreme Court a passenger had complained beforethe incident that one of the carriage doors on the train could be opened manually.
