NSW:Man shot in Sydney was just out of jail
SYDNEY, Dec 31 AAP - A young father shot dead in Sydney's west had recently been released
from prison, police say.
The 25-year-old was gunned down about 1.45am (AEDT) on Saturday at his home in Biara
Street, at Chester Hill.
Superintendent Dave Eardley said he was killed by a single gunshot and the attack was
probably targeted.
"He has recently been released from jail after a custodial sentence," he told reporters
at Bankstown.
"That is certainly one of the lines of the inquiry that the strike force will follow,
just examining his activities since he has been released from jail."
Supt Eardley said a number of family members, including the man's children, were at
home at the time of the shooting, which took place in one of the rooms of the house.
But he would not be drawn on whether the assassin had broken in through a bedroom window.
"It's an absolute tragedy, the fact that we now have children without a father, and
you have a family without a brother and a son," Supt Eardley said.
CPR was administered at the scene but the man died in the house.
